ChoraChori's child rescue programme finds trafficked and displaced Nepali children in India and returns them to their families. A vital stepping stone to reunification (or while we make alternative care arrangements) is a 30 bed refuge that we operate in Kathmandu. This provides a place of safety where rehabilitation can be carried out while families are traced and domestic circumstances assessed for reunification.
Supporting ChoraChori's Kathmandu Refuge
The Kathmandu refuge provides for all of the children's basic needs - food, accommodation, medical care, education and lots of recreation! Most children will stay at the refuge for no more than a week or two but others may be with us for some months due to difficulty of finding families in remote parts of Nepal. That said, some children cannot be returned to families either because of extreme poverty, parents being deceased or if the children were runaways from domestic abuse. In these circumstances we fund long term care and education/training options elsewhere that will allow them to ultimately fend for themselves as adults.
