I'm lucky enough to be involved with two great charities, both of which are busy fundraising to ensure they can keep on offering their services to the local community.

3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts are based in Old Leigh and run a huge array activities and training for young people aged 6 to 25 and beyond. The Group is run by a team of dedicated volunteers (including me as a Cub Leader) and relies on subs, donations and fundraising. We’re currently raising funds both for some new sailing boats to teach young people teamwork and self-reliance through sailing, and to expand out HQ in Old Leigh, building a new boating centre to offer more opportunities for activities. Both of my children spend huge amounts of their free time there.

Glenwood School is a Community Special School maintained by the Local Authority. It caters for up to 115 learners between three and nineteen years of age. It is a co-educational school for learners with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Approximately 50% have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder and approximately 30% have significant physical and/or sensory impairments.

National Three Peaks Challange

I'm climbing the three highest peaks in England Scotland and Wales: Snowdon, in Wales (1085m), Scafell Pike, in England (978m), and Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1345m). All this within 24 hours!

A popular misconception is that the three mountains that form the challenge are the three tallest on the British mainland. Rather, they are the tallest mountains within each representative country: Scafell Pike is the tallest in England; Snowdon, the tallest in Wales and Ben Nevis the tallest in Scotland — over one hundred peaks in Scotland are higher than Scafell Pike, and 56 higher than Snowdon.

The rough timings for the challenge are:

  • 12pm – 5pm: Ben Nevis
  • 5pm – 11pm: Drive to the Lake District
  • 11pm - 3am: Scafell Pike (Wasdale Head)
  • 3am – 8am: Drive to Snodonia
  • 8am – 12pm: Snowdon
  • 12pm: Challenge Complete!
