Running for Grenfell: 7 Marathons in 7 Days
I'm running 7 marathons in 7 days to raise money for children & young people who were affected by the tragic events at Grenfell Tower.
Raising money for
Baraka Community Association
My name is Kasim Ali, I’m a community leader based in Kensington and Chelsea. I’m currently studying for an MSc in Global Prosperity at one of the world’s leading universities, University College London (UCL). Through this I hope to realize my goal of prosperity for all humanity, & as part of this goal I have decided to run 7 marathons in 7 days to create a Grenfell Scholarship.
When I decided to undertake this challenge, my plan was to raise money for water drilling projects in Somalia & neighbouring East African regions, which have been hit by severe and prolonged droughts. However, after the huge impact that the tragedy at Grenfell Tower had on me & on the North Kensington community, I decided to raise funds for Baraka Community Association, who are doing incredible work with those who were directly & indirectly affected by the Grenfell Fire.
Grenfell Tower is just about 300-500 meters away from my home & that night I saw a lot of unimaginable but preventable human suffering. I will never forget what I saw & heard on that horrible night. My support for the Grenfell survivors started in the early hours of Wednesday the 14th of June 2017 & has continued ever since.
Running from Manchester via Grenfell to London
I am attempting to run 7 Marathons in 7 Days to raise £50,000 to set up a Grenfell Scholarship for children in North Kensington. I will start the run at Manchester United's Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester and run via Grenfell Tower to the finish at University College London (UCL).
How am I going to do this challenge?
Well, I have never run a full marathon for a start! However, I think I’m mentally but not physically fit for this challenge of 7 Marathons in 7 Days and I don’t know how I’m going to do it but it has to be done for a good cause!
Your Support is needed.
Please join me if you can at any part of the route from Manchester to London, and it would be great if as many people as possible could meet me at Grenfell Road (W10 6EX), opposite the Kensington Leisure Centre, at 3pm on Friday the 3rd of November to run/walk with me the last 4 miles to the finish at UCL.
Most importantly, please donate whatever you can. Any gift, whatever the size, will help change the lives of children and young people in North Kensington. Baraka Community is working with HMRC to get a Gift Aid.
Follow me on twitter (Kasim_2021) and on Facebook (Kasim Ali) for more updates.
