Jonathan Cycles from London to Athens
This Spring I'm cycling from London to Athens to raise money for Khora, a community centre that provides assistance to refugees in Athens.
Raising money for
This Spring I'm laying down the garden spade, dusting off my bicycle, donning my lycra and cycling from London to Athens. Last year I cycled across the alps to raise money for the same cause but I’ve never attempted anything even remotely this challenging before. Its going to be 7 weeks and close to 3000 miles of long days in the saddle, camping who knows where, lung-busting climbs and breathtaking descents.
I'm doing it to raise money for Khora, a humanitarian co-operative foundation based in Athens who are responding to the refugee crisis by offering a variety of services through their 8-storey community centre. The centre provides food, medical and legal support, internet and computer access, information, education, a kids area, a women’s space, a workshop and a safe space to spend the day. Last year the money we raised on our cycle paid their rent and bills for a year, and this time we're hoping to at least match that.
The cycle is funded by the participants so every penny raised goes directly towards funding Khora.
Thighs of Steel 2017
We are fundraising for Help Refugees, who fund small grassroots refugee organisations. The specific group we are fundraising for is Khora, a co-operative made up of volunteers from all over the world, including the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers. Their community centre in Athens provides not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and access to dental care, but also social needs such as education, child care, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
