I don't expect others to provide all the donations so I have match funded the first £250. I am also paying all of my costs so there is no cost to the charity. Please Gift Aid your donation if you can.

Last year Don developed Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and tragically passed away within three months of being diagnosed. Don was so full of life, whether enjoying his classic cars, performing in amateur dramatics, singing in a choir or acting as the most accomplished dinner party host, it is difficult to comprehend how that energy could be drained so quickly. Don would prepare comical cards to send me best wishes when I was embarking on major cycling events and I feel it is appropriate to use this, my longest one-day event yet, to help raise funds for Bloodwise in his memory to counter the curse of blood cancer.

I have purchased a Bloodwise cycling jersey which I will wear on my training rides. If you see me out on the roads please do give an encouraging wave.

Road endurance cycling

Well I made it, just! Having left Caernarfon Castle at 04.41 I finally rolled over the finish line in Chepstow 18 hours and 10 minutes later. I wasn't cycling all that time, though my legs and derriére made me feel that way. The feed stations were exceptionally inviting with such delicacies as bacon rolls and freshly cooked pizzas. I fear that despite having cycled all that way I may have put on weight! The scenery was superb, particularly in Snowdonia and on the Gospel Pass. Even the weather, which had taken a turn for the worse shortly before the event, was reasonable. Most of the morning was sunny and the rain which held off until about 13.45 never really came to much and was short lived. The hills were generally steeper than I had expected but I managed to ride up all of them with the odd short pause to allow my lungs to catch up and a momentary respite for the legs. I exercised my mind during the long hours in the saddle not just by looking forward to the next feed station but also by attempting to pronounce some of the place names such as Llansantffraed-in-Elwel.
Once again "thank you" for all your donations which have made the whole exercise worthwhile.
