Police cell sleepover for charity.
Hi again, I'm Joe, a 26 year old youth worker with a passion for young people, empowering people and giving the next generation a voice.
When I'm not arguing with people about trivial political non-sense, you will find me in my studio recording music videos for YouTube, playing video games or watching TED talks that make me look intelligent.
The night I spent in a cell
Hi there, Joe here – youth project coordinator for Nepacs.
On Tuesday 19 December I will be spending a night in a police cell in Consett, County Durham to help raise funds for Nepacs.
I constantly work with young people and help to better understand the criminal justice system and deal with the issues attached to parental imprisonment. I have decided to donate my time, comfort and good night sleep in solidarity with the 9,000 children and young people living in North East affected by parental imprisonment. Hopefully, this will help me have a better understanding of what their parents are going through when arrested, allowing me to better support them.
In addition to this, I am hoping to raise money for Nepacs, to help our staff and volunteers to better support the families of prisoners during these difficult times.
The event was also organised to help us to raise awareness of the impact of criminalising people in crisis and the need to ensure that people in trouble with the law are kept safe.
