Joe's Insane Bear Escape in Transylvania
I've set myself the somewhat daunting challenge of cycling 750km in 6 days through Romania and Bulgaria, over two mountain ranges, straight through bear country. Yes, I agree, that sounds slightly insane.
This is part of the third year of Thighs of Steel, a really really really long bike ride that goes from London to Athens.
This crazy endeavour is in aid of Khora Community Centre, a refugee centre in Athens, that provides food, legal services, work opportunities, creative space, family support and more to people who have fled their home countries and come to Europe.
I've completely funded my own trip, and any money you donate will go straight to Khora. Thighs of Steel has managed to raise enough money in the first two years to pay all of the rental costs of an 8 storey building up until now (with lots left over for other stuff), and that building has supported hundreds of people, so any money you donate will have a really direct impact in continuing that support!!
I've got the bike, I've booked the flights, and my legs will have to do the job because I can't trade those in, but I need your help to raise £500!!
London to Athens 2018
A group of not-so-serious cyclists have set themselves the serious challenge of cycling between London and Athens. The ride is a relay-style challenge, with each participant taking on a week or two of the overall trip.
We are fundraising for Khora; a grassroots, proactive association running a community centre in Athens. Their centre provides basic and human needs for people without freedom of movement. This includes free nutritious food, clothing, education, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
Equally important to what they offer, is how they offer it. Khora is run by volunteers from all over the world. Its team includes members of the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers too. It prioritises dignity and respect in every service it provides.
The £60,000 we are aiming to raise will pay for the rent for their community centre for an entire year. The running costs of a project are typically the hardest to find funding for, so it of particular importance to be able to provide this for Khora, to secure a stable future for the project. All fund-raised money goes to Khora, and none on the ride.
