Joe's Back In The Saddle
It's happening again! For the last 2 years, I have joined a group of cyclists exercising their will-power, thigh-power and their brakes in a sponsored cycle from London to Athens, fundraising for refugees in Greece. We have raised over £150,000 for Khora, a humanitarian co-operative foundation in Athens providing services for refugees forced from their homes by war, poverty and climate change.
More work still needs to be done, so once again I am getting back in the saddle, this time going the whole and cycling from the London to Athens.
I'm not going to pretend I'm not looking forward to it- it looks stunning and I'll probably have the time of my life but would be great if you could spare some money for a really important cause. Any donations no matter how large or small would be greatly appreciated! I cover all my own costs, so all money raised will go directly to Khora.
Joe and the rest of the Thighs of Steel team!
London to Athens 2018
A group of not-so-serious cyclists have set themselves the serious challenge of cycling between London and Athens. The ride is a relay-style challenge, with each participant taking on a week or two of the overall trip.
We are fundraising for Khora; a grassroots, proactive association running a community centre in Athens. Their centre provides basic and human needs for people without freedom of movement. This includes free nutritious food, clothing, education, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
Equally important to what they offer, is how they offer it. Khora is run by volunteers from all over the world. Its team includes members of the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers too. It prioritises dignity and respect in every service it provides.
The £60,000 we are aiming to raise will pay for the rent for their community centre for an entire year. The running costs of a project are typically the hardest to find funding for, so it of particular importance to be able to provide this for Khora, to secure a stable future for the project. All fund-raised money goes to Khora, and none on the ride.
