Joe's back in the saddle
It's happening again! Last year, I joined a group of cyclists exercising their will-power, thigh-power and their brakes in a sponsored cycle from London to Athens, fundraising for refugees in Greece. We raised over £48,000 for Help Refugees. The money raised went to help set up Khora, a humanitarian co-operative foundation in Athens providing services for refugees forced from their homes by war, poverty and climate change (see below).
More work still needs to be done, so once again I am getting back in the saddle, this time going into uncharted lands and cycling from the North of Italy to the North of Greece, cycling 1500km and climbing 1700m in 12 days.
Any donations no matter how large or small would be greatly appreciated! I cover all my own costs, so all money raised will go directly to Help Refugees and Khora.
Joe and the rest of the Thighs of Steel team!
Thighs of Steel 2017
We are fundraising for Help Refugees, who fund small grassroots refugee organisations. The specific group we are fundraising for is Khora, a co-operative made up of volunteers from all over the world, including the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers. Their community centre in Athens provides not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and access to dental care, but also social needs such as education, child care, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
