100 miles for 100 years
I am Chairman of the Royal Society of St George, which exists to celebrate England, its countryside and its history, and to support our Armed Forces and other charities and good causes that are relevant to our country. Last year, I walked 86 miles, from Portsmouth to Trafalgar Square, and raised just under £3,000 for Combat Stress and London Air Ambulance.
That was great fun as well as very worthwhile, so this year, I am walking 100 miles along coastal paths, at the beginning of November, to raise money for the Royal British Legion. I will be accompanied by Jeffrey Long, MBE, who at 86 is well known for his incredible walks for charity, and I hope that friends and members of the Society will join me on the way for a mile or two. Please contact me directly to find out my exact itinerary each day.
It is going to be a harder trek, given the time of year and the likely terrain, but with your support I hope it will be very worthwhile.
100 mile walk for the Royal British Legion
On the 11th November this year, 2018, it will be 100 years exactly since the Armistice which marked the end of the First World War, the Great War, the war that was supposed to be the war that ended war, but which produced a horrific and largely pointless loss of life and the loss of a generation of young men.
To mark this momentous and poignant occasion, I will walk from Sandwich to Newhaven, along the coastal paths wherever possible, linking the major ports that were vital to the war effort.
I will start at the War Memorial at Sandwich at 8.30am on the 6th November and finish at 11am on the 11th November at the War Memorial at Newhaven.
As it is 100 years since the formation of the the RAF, I will also visit the Battle of Britain memorial at Capel Le Ferne, overlooking the Channel year Folkestone,
