13 Marathons in 12 Months
In 2017/2018 am running 13 Marathons in 12 months (including a 55 mile non-stop Ultra Marathon) to raise money for Chestnut Tree House.
Raising money for
Chestnut Tree House - Sussex
I have been fundraising for Chestnut Tree House since 2014 and raised over £7000 in 2015 competing at Challenge Weymouth Ironman Triathlon. This year I am intending on going even bigger, by completing 11 Marathons and 2 Ultra Marathons in 12 months.
Chestnut Tree House provides hospice care for life limited children. The children they help care for rarely make it past their 19th birthday, with many dying much younger. Chestnut helped care for my friends daughter Amber, who tragically died of Neuroblastoma (a childhood cancer) when she was just 2 years old.
Opened in 2003, the hospice provides a home from home environment for families to come and stay with us for specialist respite breaks and activity days. Facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, music room and a multi-sensory room. Our Community Team provide care in families own homes across the whole of Sussex and East Hampshire 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
It currently costs more than £3.5 million per year to provide all of our services, yet we receive less than 7% of this from central government.
Our aim is to make every day count, the good days, the bad days and the last days.
13 Marathons in 12 months
Between Brighton Marathon (April 2017) and Brighton Marathon (April 2018) I am going to race a marathon a month.
Just to make this a bit harder, in June I will not be racing a normal marathon, but more than a double marathon across the South Downs. The race is called the Race to the King, and is a 55 mile non stop Ultra Marathon foot race. Also, in December I am competing in the first ever Portsmouth Coastal Ultra Marathon, at the 50km distance.
I am not and never have been a good runner. This challenge will be very tough for me, and will push me to my limits. It is worth every second of training and every minute of effort because Chestnut Tree House is such a worthy charity.
Full details of my race schedule and further information about this challenge is available on my blog, www.ironsnook.co.uk
