James' First Half-Marathon!
I'm James, I'm a pretty active person mostly as a competing amateur boxer but I also love to run. I tend to go out running by myself once a week or so. The furthest I've run by myself is 19 miles on a random Saturday, while that is a long way I've never taken on an actual competition or race. The company I work for, Michael O'Mara, is a great supporter of Link Age Southwark and they recently asked for volunteers to take on the Hackney-Half challenge and fundraise. I decided to take up the opportunity to raise money for a wonderful charity doing something I already enjoy and also take part in my first race.
It's a great opportunity for me but I really need your support and donations to make this a fantastic event!
In May I'll be taking on the 13.1 mile half-marathon through Hackney in support of Link Age Southwark.
Link Age Southwark is a South London based charity that provides friendly volunteer support to over 600 isolated, older people. The charity and it's volunteers help reduce loneliness and isolation and help older people maintain active lives within the community. The fantastic volunteers support older people to thrive in later life, through:
- One-to-one befriending visits
- Activity groups with volunteer transport
- Practical support including light gardening and help with odd jobs
- Intergenerational work with local schools
