Raising money for
Khora is a community centre in the heart of Athens, supporting refugees by providing essential services. Around 500 meals are served per day, with a different cook through the week; language classes are offered in English to Farsi to German; three volunteer dentists work in the registered practice; safe spaces are offered for women and a creative play area for children.
Now 6 months old, It has come an incredibly long way.
The project began as a long term response to the refugee crisis in Greece. After the balkan route was shut in March 2016 and the Greek islands evacuated, grassroots organisations were needed to provide food and shelter to refugees in Athens. From those early days, coordination from the UK charity Help Refugees, Khora is now a vibrant place to be.
As the months go by, more people hear about what the space offers, and it becomes evrer more diverse. People from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Balochistan, Kurdistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Eritrea use the space daily.
The centre is entirely volunteer driven, relying on small donations and collective dedication.
Help us raise enough to cover the rent for another year!!!
Thighs of Steel 2017
We are fundraising for Help Refugees, who fund small grassroots refugee organisations. The specific group we are fundraising for is Khora, a co-operative made up of volunteers from all over the world, including the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers. Their community centre in Athens provides not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and access to dental care, but also social needs such as education, child care, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
