Every year, for as long as I can remember now, Lucie has included 'charity presents' in her letter to Santa. This year was the same, except this year she has been fighting ME/CFS. At a time when she should have been leaving Primary School and excitedly starting High School, Lucie has spent much of her time confined to home and often her bed. She is no longer able to do the things other children her age take for granted, and even a few hours out of the house can leave her exhausted for the next week. Anything she does now, has to be carefully considered, she is no longer able to horse ride which she has loved since the age of 5.
And so when she included charity gifts on her list this year, we knew we had to do something different...and the idea for 'In her name...' was born.
We have asked family and friends to pledge to complete a physical challenge and raise money for 2 ME charities. One which will fund research into this illness...and one which aims to put smiles onto the faces of those isolated by ME by sending gifts.
We know Lucie will enjoy watching the totals raised for her charities rise...and will be sharing the events with her as they take place...In Her Name xx

Event details

Various fundraising pledges

We started by inviting family and friends to get involved in a physical challenge, something that Lucie can't do at the minute, and to raise funds in her name. This has now expanded into a much wider variety of challenges than we hoped for...with events including from Tough Mudders, runs, mountain walks, dancing, bouncing, swimming, cycling...and the list goes on....
These events will take place during the year, Christmas 2017 to Christmas 2018.
We hope that Lucie will see that there are lots of people wishing her well and thinking about her, and that the events will give her something to focus on. We know she will gain pleasure from watching the events raise money for these charities, and hope she sees she can still make a difference, even when things are tough for her personally.

This Christmas, our household have decided not to send cards. They usually just end up in the recycling bin afterwards, so this year we decided to donate the money we would normally spend to Lucie's charity. XXX
