First Scout Sking to South Pole and Back
Joe Doherty will become the first Scout in the world to Ski to the South Pole this November. He has raised over £50,000 for the expedition but still needs the last little bit to Kite Ski back and break a world record.
The expedition is designed to inspire young people to go find their own 'South Pole'. The team have created an Antarctic Challenge badge which Scouts are awarded after completing set challenges by the team. Over 3000 have been awarded so far, also over 5000 Scouts/School students have received a motivational speech from the team.
If the expedition can go ahead, the team aims to raise money to create a legacy fund for the next generation. With your support this can happen and the team can broadcast the expedition nationally and get much more support for the cause!
Ski South Pole and Kite-Ski Return
The final continent untouched by HSX is the icy land of Antarctica. In 2018, Joe Doherty will ski over 566 nautical miles (1050km) from the Messner Start at 82°S to the South Pole in 50 days and return to Hercules Inlet by kite-ski. Over 70 days, they will cover 1200 miles.
Joe will haul over 100kgs of food, fuel & equipment in order to survive one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth. Enduring temperatures of -50°C and wind speeds up to 80 mph in 24 hour daylight; this is set to be one of the hardest challenges ever undertaken in the history of Scouting.
This is an opportunity to be part of an historic expedition for the World Scouting Movement. When you support Joe, you can choose to receive a gift:
