South Pole Scouts - HSX Antarctica
Hampshire Scout Expeditions (HSX) is a county Scout Group based in Hampshire. Established in 1987, we provide training for Scouts aged 14-18 through expeditions focused physical and mental development as well as community-based projects. In 2007, HSX put three Scout leaders on the top of Everest.
Ski South Pole and Kite-Ski Return
The final continent untouched by HSX is the icy land of Antarctica. In 2018, Joe Doherty and Oliver Robinson will ski over 566 nautical miles (1050km) from the Messner Start at 82°S to the South Pole in 50 days and return to Hercules Inlet by kite-ski. Over 70 days, they will cover 1200 miles.
The team will haul over 100kgs of food, fuel & equipment in order to survive one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth. Enduring temperatures of -50°C and wind speeds up to 80 mph in 24 hour daylight; this is set to be one of the hardest challenges ever undertaken in the history of Scouting.
This is an opportunity to be part of an historic expedition for the World Scouting Movement. When you support the team, you can choose to receive a gift:
£5 - Postcard
£10 - Signed photo from the Pole
