Raising money for
Chepstow Methodist Church
Since returning from our first visit to Zambia in 2015 we have developed a “Partnership Across the Miles” with Hope in Christ, which partners our home Church in Chepstow, the Christian Service Centre Church in Arizona & other friends in the USA & UK who fore-mostly have committed to pray regularly but have also funded a variety of projects at Hope in Christ. The motto of Hope in Christ Orphanage / School which you see painted on the wall when you enter the site is “The distance between success and failure is action”. From our visit in June 2018 we were encouraged to see the difference that the "action" of people giving generous donations was making to the lives of children & people connected with Hope in Christ.
For example, Secondary School education in Zambia is over a 5 year period; it’s not free but fee based, costing around £200 or US$260 to educate each child for one year, including uniforms & resources needed by the young people. Over the last 2 years, 19 young people from Hope in Christ have been funded for secondary education; if you can help these & others to be educated it will make such an amazing difference to their lives.
Supporting Hope in Christ, Lusaka Zambia
Hope in Christ Orphanage & School was set up by Pastor Paul & Mary Swala in 2008 with the vision of helping & educating orphaned children; Hope in Christ is sited on the edge of the “Chipata Shanty Compound” in Lusaka. The Orphanage school currently educates 156 children, in 5 classes with room for up to 30 of those children to be housed on the site; the others live with family members or foster parents in the local “shanty compound.” The on-going primary challenges are providing a daily meal for the children, maintaining a good standard of education by continuing to employ trained teachers and having enough resources. In February 2017 a Clinic was opened by Hope in Christ with the vision to provide basic medical care for the children at the orphanage / school and people in the adjacent Chipata shanty compound. It is staffed by Heyfort Kasakula, the clinical officer and his team whose challenge is to meet the on-going costs of staffing and providing equipment & medicine.
