I have been a qualified nurse now for over 18 years and for the last 17 years I have worked in a Urology setting. 13 years ago a close family member was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and successfully treated, this spurred on my  huge interest in this disease and when an  opportunity to come and  join the Royal Surrey County Hospital as a Prostate Clinical Nurse specialist specifically dealing with patients whom have the surgical removal of their  prostate I jumped at the chance. I can proudly say that I have never looked back I have learned so much and in the time I have been here I have seen the workload double due to the demands of the service and witnessed the amazing new "The Stokes Centre For urology" being built.  As I am now in the new building and can see first hand what it can offer and what is still needed I wanted to help by raising some money for the centre. This money would be put in to improving the care and treatment of our patients. What better way to do this by entering the Brighton Marathon. It is a huge commitment and the training intense but I cannot think of a better way to give something back and push myself to do something worth while.

Event details

Brighton marathon

Brighton Marathon is a huge undertaking for me although I did do 2 half marathons a few years ago I then took a break from running for a while due slight lack of enthusiasm and a bit of laziness (kidney stone didn’t help either)   However for the last 4 years I have still gone ahead and applied for the London marathon but unsurprisingly  was unsuccessfull  so this year I decided I would give Brighton a go. thankfully I got in without difficulty and training has begun. I am currently on week 5 of my 17 marathon training programme and my mileage and stamina are picking up. I won’t be breaking any records but  I will certainly be achieving my own personal goal.
