Twice As Slow As Mo II
It's uncanny really. Mo has twins, I have twins. He's a migrant who has to put up with England...well. He trains in Ethiopia; I'd quite like to go there and visit the Semien Mountains and the hidden churches of Lalibela. But it transpires we share something else...
Having poo-pooed anything vaguely active for, well, my life, doing the Couch to 5k last year has resulted in something of a personality change. This is almost entirely due to the fact that when you finish races you get a medal and a free T shirt (am sure Mo had a similar thought pattern around the Olympics). But also it turns out I rather like running. Especially the fact I am significantly faster than Jon and it really, REALLY bugs him.
As promised, I am doubling my distance each year, so 2018 is the year of 10,000m. As with the 5,000 I am hoping to be very, very roughly twice as slow as Mo. But frankly 59:59 would be amazeballs. Psychological, innit.
I am running for local brain injury charity Head Injured People in Cheshire, who do amazing things for amazing people who have gone toe-to-toe with the Grim Reaper and said, nah mate, not today...
£250 would cover the cost of a mass bowling competition for all the members, including a meal, drink and transport.
We are hoping to hold an art course for the Ellesmere Port posse: running this for 4 weeks to include tuition, materials, room hire and refreshments would cost £328.
If you're feeling really generous, then there's the annual trip for all the members in July. Last year we went to Chester Zoo, which cost approximately £1000 including transport, discounted entrance, refreshments etc. We're hoping to do something similar this year, maybe to Ness Gardens or New Brighton with a ferry trip.
But anything you can give would be extremely welcome and, being a small, member-led charity, a little goes a very long way.
