When we were told that Harry was going to die, we tried to fill his final days with love, laughter and joy. Harry brought each of these things to all he met in abundance, and we wanted to remember him and create precious memories in that spirit. We had days out in the area and little breaks away. Although Harry was weak, he enjoyed each day and we filled our lives with hugs, giggles and photos between the tears.

More than anything, Harry wanted to go back to Disneyland Paris - we had visited almost a year to the day prior to his diagnosis, and he adored Donald Duck, so his only real wish was to go back to Paris to see Donald.

I tried really hard to get travel insurance to make this dream come true. Because I was giving Harry oral chemo at home every day to try and prolong his life, no insurance company would touch us unless I stopped the chemo (there was no way I was doing that), and so we couldn't go to Paris. Instead, Donald Duck came to see us at home, along with Harry's two much loved friends, and we had a little party at home. Harry died two weeks later and our hearts will be forever broken. We miss him so much.

Run Disney Paris Half Marathon

So later this year, on what would have been Harry's 12th birthday, I will be taking part in the Run Disney Paris Half Marathon.

You might think this is something easily achieved, but people who know me also know that I have put on nearly four stone since Harry died - I didn't believe comfort eating existed until needed to do it. I have also pretty much stopped looking after myself, and hidden behind a smile and kept myself busy. So for me, this really is a challenge, but one that means so much because of when and where it takes place.

But I'm not going to do this alone! My good friends Jo Croft, Claire Jones and Sam Dorsett will be joining me every step of the way. Sam and Jo have been my best buddies for 20 years and Claire has played a big part in helping me adapt to my new 'normal' without Harry and has become a valued friend too.

So, Sam, Claire, Jo and I would really appreciate it if you might be able to sponsor us in our quest please.

We hope to make Harry's birthday a little bit special this year.
Thank you 🐸

I've only ever run 10km and that is enough for me, to attempt a half marathon from nothing is a real achievement! But everything you do is a real achievement!
