I'm unfit and have never attempted anything like this before but at this current time I have seen first hand just how blooming difficult it is in social care right now, you only have to look at the homes shutting down all over the place.
If we can make a little bit of a difference by raising money for putting myself through freezing cold torture (anyone who's heard my view on cold showers will understand this dramatic phrase!) then great. Luckily I know a fabulous group of people who will look after me if I do indeed collapse.
So if you choose to donate today I can guarantee you your money will be spent making lives of adults with learning disabilities better, it will go on things like confidence boosting activities such as drama, college, horse-riding, sailing, dealing with things such as demonstrative public ignorance of learning disabilities  (sadly it still happens) through therapy & counselling sessions, create creativity & life skills with gardening, art, craft, theatre production as well as pay for the boring bits such as fuel & maintenance to ensure these activities and sessions happen.

Event details

Great East Swim-Adults with Learning Disabilities

I will be (hopefully) swimming in open water at the Alton Water Reservoir non-stop for a mile. When I googled it that was 66 lengths, I went swimming for the first time, in a pool since last year, last week and managed a whopping 12 lengths (with stopping). What am I doing?? I'm disgusted that a mask, snorkel, tank & fins are not allowed, that visibility is non-existent and that the dreaded front crawl is the preferred stroke for open water swimming. I am delighted that there are numerous amounts of wildlife at Alton Water so there will be a variety of faeces to swim through and of course not forgetting the friendly leeches. However, aside from all of that, it will certainly be a challenge I won't forget and a big thank you to Cath, Geraldine & Tory for persuading me to join them. I apologise now if I get in their way....lets just hope they don't need to use their life-saving skills!!
