Giraffe Children's Charity Christmas Appeal
Please help us put a few more smiles on parents’ and children’s faces this Christmas with a donation to our 2018 Christmas Appeal.
Raising money for
The Giraffe Project Children's Charity
Many Giraffe children have come through terrible difficulties in their short lives and still struggle with problems such as poverty, abuse, neglect and ill health of parents. One way we can care for students' wellbeing is to provide counselling services. A trained counsellor in a school can provide valuable 1-1 and group support to help vulnerable children like Neema, shown below.
Donations to our Christmas Appeal therefore have a focus on raising money to:
- fund counselling services in the schools we support as well as going where they are most needed to help us run Giraffe projects.
- give a small gift to all our sponsored students: Primary, Secondary and College. We have over 400 students sponsored in schools and colleges so its ambitious but we want to let every child know someone thought about them this Christmas.
It’s hard to learn when you’re weighed down by worry.
Neema’s short life has given her plenty to worry about. She lives in Dandora slum, one of the most dangerous and disease infested places in Nairobi. Neema’s father abandoned his family years ago leaving her mother to raise four children alone. It was difficult for Neema to hold onto her dreams as every day was a struggle for her family to keep a roof over their heads. However, thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters like you, we were able to connect Neema with a sponsor and offer her a place at GEC.
Neema’s story isn’t uncommon and now we want to provide counselling services to help support these vulnerable children to overcome the difficulties in their lives and build resilience for the future. A counsellor is someone children can turn to when weighed down by worry, struggling with anxiety or the pressures of school life. We know from experience that providing this service makes a huge difference to a child's happiness as well as their ability to learn.
