Raising money for
Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL)

My name’s Jon Harle. I’ve just retired after more than 30 years with the BBC, most recently as a radio presenter at BBC Newcastle. I'm an unfit fair-weather cyclist, so this is going to be a big challenge.
Cycling from Newcastle to Dundee
Last year I cycled from Newcastle to London to celebrate my 60th birthday, and raised more than £2500 for the charity Send a Cow. This year it's personal. I want to raise money for the charity which is helping my 2 year old grandson, Ezekiel, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. So I'm planning to cycle from Newcastle to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he's being given chemotherapy, and back to his home in Kinross. Apart from the heartbreak of seeing their little boy undergoing such brutal but necessary treatment, my daughter and son-in-law are having to suddenly find extra money for several round trips of 70 miles each week, car parking, bed and breakfast and so on. Which is where a wonderful organisation called Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia stepped in (www.tccl.org.uk/). They sent a cheque for £500, but offer emotional as well as financial support. My aim is to raise enough to pay back TCCL five-fold, a total of £2,500, so that they can carry on helping children and parents having to cope with this horrible disease. I'm not a doctor. I can't make sick children well, but we can help parents while the doctors do their bit. Thanks for your support.
