Raising money for
Umbrella Derby and Derbyshire
Donations no longer accepted
Proceeds from the fundraising will go to Umbrella. They're a small charity based in Derby who provide support for disabled children and young adults and their families. My wife works for the charity which means that I'm very aware of the great work that they do. As a small organisation any donation, however small, will make a difference to the support that they can offer. http://www.umbrella.uk.net/
I'm a 44 year old cycling nut who loves a mad challenge. I became aware of 'Everesting' while browsing the Internet and it instantly sowed a seed in my mind - maybe I could do that? - On the 1st of June I'll find out! Only 67 cycling Everests have been recorded in the world so far - if I'm successful I'll be only the 3rd in the UK to have completed this challenge. See http://www.everesting.cc
Everesting Beeley Moor
The hill I've chosen is the climb from Beeley Village near Chatsworth House in the Derbyshire Peak District up to Beeley Moor - The climb is also known as 'Hell Bank'!! I'll need to ride up and down this hill 41 times to gain enough altitude and in doing so will have climbed a total of 9020m and ridden 303km (188 miles!). I'm expecting it to take about 14-16 hours.
Some climb stats :
Min Elevation: 112
Max Elevation: 332
Elev Gain: 220m
Avg Grade: 5.9%
Max Grade: 11.1%
The Climb is number 127 in Simon Warren's "Another 100 Climbs" book.
The ride will be validated by GPS and barometric altitude data.
