Erica Cycles an Awfully Long Way
On January 3rd 2017, Tim (the husband) had a heart transplant at Harefield Hospital. We would like to say Thank You to them.
Raising money for
Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity
In November 2014, Tim was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy from a virus and he spent 5 weeks in East Surrey Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
For 3 years, the condition was controlled with medication, but in August 2016, we were told that Tim would need a heart transplant.
He checked into Harefield Hospital on November 9th to wait for a donor heart.
A match was found, and in the early hours of January 3rd, he received his new heart.
He is doing amazingly well.
We asked the hospital to try and summarise some of the costs...
- Tim's overall stay in the specialist transplant ward - £43,269.
- Cost of the drug and syringe pump he was administered 24 hours a day - £8000
- Transport of organ to Harefield Hospital - £35,000
- Cost of the transplant operation - £100,000
- 5 Days in intensive care - £10,000
- Annual cost of medication - £2000
We are so grateful to the staff of Harefield Hospital and to the NHS.
Tim and Erica
Cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
On the 9th September at 7am, I will leave Land's End and will cycle 969 miles over the next nine days to John O'Groats.
This is an average of 107 miles a day, and an average elevation gain of 5000 feet every day (higher than Ben Nevis every day)
And I'm camping. (This is the part that worries me more than all the cycling!)
