In 2010 I was diagnosed with severe post-natal depression & post-traumatic stress disorder after the birth of my first child.
For many years I was suffering in silence and was ashamed to talk about the way I felt. I was getting worse and blindly believed that my family and, most importantly, my newborn son would be better off without me.
Eventually I turned for help and things slowly were getting better.
Even though it was the most darkest period in my life I don't wish upon anyone. It taught me a great deal about mental health and I've been shouting out loud about it since.
In 2013 I started a charity 'Debesmanna.com' with just one thought in my mind - to help new mums & dads suffering from post-natal depression, encouraging them to seek help, to let them realise they are not alone.
What started with an online forum has grown to a leading organisation in Latvia in its field.
More about the charity can be found here - www.debesmanna.com
Iveta & Cop does Debesmudder
On 24th September I will be taking on the biggest challenge yet Tough Mudder (https://toughmudder.co.uk) - 12 miles, tackling 25 military-style obstacles through mud and fire, climbing hills and ropes testing my mental as well as physical strength.
I will be raising money for Debesmanna.com so it can continue provide support to new mums & dads suffering from post-natal illness.
Your donations will help to provide, free of charge, services including individual befriending sessions, group work therapy, camps & support groups, telephone/online & practical support to new parents not just in Latvia but also UK.
It is going to be a tough one but I do believe I can do it (in spite of all the recent injuries). I will be taking onto this challenge together with my cop sister so there is no doubt we will finish it.
Please spare any pennies you have and let's break the stigma about mental health. Let's get muddy and make a difference!
