Dean running the Ealing Half Marathon
It was a couple of years ago at a party I decided along with a few friends that I really should get fit and do some running. I overcame my inertia along with a couple of other hardy souls, and ventured out on a cold and dark Sunday morning in January. The result was much spluttering and cursing, but somehow managed to run around Lammas and Walpole parks. This carried on for a few months and I began to steadily improve. Fast forward 18 months, and most unusually I have kept up the running lark and started to actually enjoy it. So much so, that I entered myself for the Ealing Half Marathon.
Dean running on behalf of Ealing Street Pastors
Whilst training, I thought it would be more purposeful if I could raise some funds for a charity. It was through a business contact, I was told about the sterling work that Ealing Street Pastors undertake. It is a charitable organisation that provides friendly and caring volunteers who patrol the streets late on Friday and Saturday nights talking and listening to people who appear to be vulnerable, lonely or just want to have a chat. After spending an evening as an observer on patrol with them, it was amazing to see the goodwill and warmth they generate. They are of tremendous benefit to the night time community and are much valued by the Police.
Given that Ealing Street Pastors are walking the streets of Ealing doing their great work, I thought in my own small way I can provide some benefit by running and raising money on those same streets.
