Oxford & Cambridge Note Race 2017
I play the piano and recently picked up the flugelhorn and cornet again after too many years away. I participate regularly in various local jazz jam sessions.
For the Grade-1-athon I'm attempting to learn the tenor saxophone in 9 weeks and pass my grade 1 examination on 10 September. The main challenge seems to be getting all the notes out in a reasonably tuneful way. I was persuaded to demonstrate my (lack of) progress at the July jam session - see photo - and now I'm really scared!!!
Nevertheless it's all for a great cause: the funds we raise will make children's and families' lives better through the work of Home-Start Oxford. Through weekly home visits, Home-Start Oxford helps families struggling with a wide range of issues, including isolation, physical and mental health problems, children with disabilities, bereavement, and other issues, to build better lives for their young children.
So please donate whatever you are able to here for this great cause and many thanks in advance for your generosity!

The Oxford and Cambridge Note Race 2017 teams will compete in a Grade-1-athon. Sponsored to learn a new instrument and, after only one lesson (which sadly I missed!) and nine weeks, the Oxford team will take Grade 1 exams and play in an orchestral concert at the Oxford Town Hall.
