My name is David Bradwell and I am the co-ordinator of Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees, a multi-faith project which seeks to support congregations across Scotland in their work with refugees.
I'm taking part in Shoulder to Shoulder, an interfaith pilgrimage up the Hill of God - Ben Ledi, near Callander, on Sunday 2 July.
I'm raising funds for the Church of Scotland World Mission Council's Needing a Neighbour fund, which is used to support the work of partners in South Sudan - the world's youngest nation and one where aid is needed to support people affected by conflict who have been displaced from their homes.
Need a Neighbour
In December 2013, the people of South Sudan found themselves in a situation of political and ethnic
conflict. As with any conflict
situation, it is the ordinary people that find themselves caught up in a
situation which has left many dead and others fleeing for their lives. Some
months on and there is still no peace, and people are now suffering from the
effects of hunger, and the lack of clean water, shelter and insecurity. Because
of the continuing sporadic conflict, aid agencies are not able to reach people
living outside the recognised refugee centres or far from the capital
Juba. However, our partner Church, the
Presbyterian Church of South Sudan (PCOSS), through their agency, the Presbyterian
Relief and Development Agency (PRDA) are able to reach the areas in greatest
need with much needed relief.
