Cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats, leaving on Christmas Day and arriving before New Year to raise money for 5 cancer charities.
Donations accepted until 31-03-2016
Cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats is a difficult challenge in summer, but I wanted to make it a little tougher, in the hope that the challenge would be worthy of people's sponsorship and raise as much money as I can for the five charities I have chosen to support.
Christmas can be a hard time of year for those unwell with cancer, undergoing treatment and stuck in hospital or hospice and for friends and families supporting, and also for those who have lost loved ones to the disease. One reason for undertaking this challenge at this time of year is to raise awareness of this. Something that I myself found hard whilst my wife Janie was ill with the disease and more so after she passed away in November 2013. She is the inspiration behind this challenge.
Dave's Big Icicle Ride
Leaving Lands End on Christmas Morning, my (Dave’s) Big Icicle ride will take me the length of the country in 7 days, with the objective of arriving in John O’Groats before the New Year. I’ll cover 870 miles in seven days, facing the worst of the British winter weather in limited daylight and will climb over 33,000 ft over the course of the challenge, higher than Mount Everest. I’ll also be riding the route on my own, but will be supported by my mate Richard following in a camper van.
The objective of this adventure is to raise awareness and some money for a number of cancer charities, some of which helped Janie and I greatly in her fight against the disease. All of these charities do and with our support will continue to do good work helping people like us through their own battles with cancer.
