Danielle's Doing the Virgin Money London Marathon
In September 2011 Thomas was born following a healthy pregnancy. Unfortunately he was very poorly - he needed resuscitating for 6 minutes & was then diagnosed with a rare condition called TOF, plus 2 holes in his heart & sepsis.
After life saving surgery at 2 days old, Thomas had 2 weeks in hospital then came home. Life was quite straightforward until we had to wean him onto solids at five months old. Food would often get stuck in his food pipe & on 3 occasions he stopped breathing & needed resuscitating. Mealtimes continued to be challenging until Thomas was around 3.5 years old.
In April 2017 I visited my friends Amy & Jamie for the weekend. We watched the London Marathon on the TV & I realised what a huge amount of money I could raise for the TOFS charity by taking part.
In Sept 18 I joined a local running club On The Run in Towcester with their 0-5km group. In Jan 18 I progressed on to the intervals group with a 10km race in March as the goal.
Once 10km had been achieved, I set my goal of 10 miles in September 18 followed by Birmingham 1/2 Marathon in October 18. I have managed to reach these targets so have set myself the ultimate goal of the London Marathon.
2019 Virgin Money London Marathon
I am taking part in the 2019 London Marathon. I am aiming to complete it by doing run/walk intervals to minimise the risk of injury due to having a ceramic hip joint. I'll be at the back hoping to finish in 6-7 hours, or if things don't go to plan, getting round before the roads are reopened.
Training will be tough - I am juggling working full time with being a single parent to Thomas, his 4YO brother Matthew & 13YO sister Charlotte, plus helping out with the PTA at the children's Primary School.
I find it far easier to be having a glass of wine or a coffee with friends than getting out training & it's going to be a tough winter of training ahead of me.
I would really appreciate sponsorship to so that we can raise money for this fabulous charity.
I will only be doing a Marathon once.
