Cambridge Youth Opera Double Bill
Cambridge Youth Opera
Cambridge Youth Opera broadens the creative horizons of young people through opera. We work with young people to create age appropriate productions to the highest possible standard. By providing easily accessible, exciting activities, we open up what is often considered an exclusive art form, cultivate the arts as a natural part of daily life, and grow the confidence of our participants. We believe that opera is ideal for this, as it encompasses such a variety of elements and the opportunity to thrill, move and amuse both participants and audiences.
CYO is for everybody. We are an open access, community organisation. We do not charge for participation.
CYO is funded through grants and donations. Your donation will help us provide quality coaching for our participants, build sets, make costumes and props, support young musicians and artists, and keep our activities open to anybody who wants to take part
The Hiding Tree and The Little Sweep
Cambridge Youth Opera's seventh production has us all excited! We're putting on an ambitious double bill,:
- a European première of Edward Barnes' The Hiding Tree, featuring two singing sisters and their battle with a roaring, snoring Monster
- Benjamin Britten's The Little Sweep - this much loved opera will feature children, teenagers, CYO alumni, joined by local choirs and schools as a real community work
As always, we offer free participation in all the activities that go to make up an opera, whether it's singing, playing in the orchestra, getting involved in making sets and costumes, lighting, stage management and more.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any young person with an interest in the arts, their families, friends and everybody in our audience to experience two exciting works.
Performances take place on 26, 27 and 28 March 2018.
