Special Olympics Mountain Biking (SOMtB)
We're raising £10,000 to help fund our 4 Cycling Athletes to go to the World Special Olympic Games, in Abu Dhabi in March 2019.
Raising money for
Special Olympics Surrey
Peter, Ben, Natalie & Luke are members of Special Olympic Mountain Biking (SOMtB) a voluntary Cycling group helping to promote independence and sporting achievements for young adults with learning difficulties. We are part of Special Olympics Surrey which allows us to enter regional, national and international competitions.
We provide high quality coaching and training for both on and off road cycling, with a support staff team to ensure participation and safety. Our cycling activities help develop young adults with their personal health and fitness, also their mental health through outdoor sports, exercise, socialising and an opportunity to engage in activities otherwise unavailable. We promote team spirit,as well as individual achievements within a caring and challenging environment. Our members benefit hugely by being part of the group by showing increased confidence, improved social skills, they make new friends, have a healthy lifestyle, achieve both personal and sporting developments which they didn't realise were within their scope, and experience happiness and joy.
Cycling for Great Britain
PETER, BEN, NATALIE & LUKE are all members of Special Olympics Mountain Biking (SOMtB) and part of Special Olympics Surrey. They are all just delighted to have been selected to represent the UK by competing at The World Special Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi in March 2019. They will all be competing in Cycling events from 500m to 10K.
This is an amazing opportunity for all 4 of our athletes to shine and do the best they can in competitive sport. They will be showing their committment by continuing training and keeping fit, and attending several training weekends arranged by Team GB. They will then all travel, with their team mates to Abu Dhabi for 2 weeks, practicing and acclimatising for the first week, and competing during the second week.
They need to raise funds to help with their training weekends, equipment and travelling costs.
LET'S HELP GET THEM ON THEIR WAY!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT - IT IS HUGELY APPRECIATED.
