Crispin Thorold is a mid-life crisis marathon swimmer who has the habit of setting himself crazy goals from a position of complete ignorance. Next up is an attempt to complete a solo non-stop swim around the island of Manhattan.
This swim will be in the memory of my dear friend Rosie Choueka who died from secondary breast cancer in June 2015 at the age of 38, leaving behind her husband Elliot and their two young children. In her death Rosie touched tens of thousands through her blog Fighting Genghis (https://fightinggenghis.wordpress.com/), which went viral and became national news in the UK.
The charity, Secondary1st, was established in her memory. It is funding pioneering research into secondary breast cancer.
20 Bridges swim around Manhattan
A swim under the 20 bridges of Manhattan and around the whole island. This is one of the most scenic and iconic of marathon swims.
The 45K swim is a considerable test of physical and mental endurance and is likely to take up to 10 hours to complete.
