Charity begins at home
It all started in 2013 - I was listening to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 - he was doing a feature called ‘Eating before Heating’. A lady phoned up in her 30s she worked as an admin assistant and could not claim benefits because of previous debt problems. In the winter she used to come home and go straight to bed because she could not afford the electricity or heating. Some days all she could afford was a slice of bread with value margarine. She did not want people to feel sorry for her but just to realise that yes there are people starving in Africa but there are also people in need at home in local communities to us. This was not a charitable video cleverly designed to pull your heart strings, this was here and now and very real. I was touched that she was so brave to ring up I could not believe she did not have anyone to help her. I know there are people out there who are less fortunate but maybe not quite how desperate and often lonely these people are.
Christmas Lunch 2015
Once again rather than giving money to charity we are giving our Christmas Day. We are cooking Christmas Lunch, delivering food parcels and presents at our local Church Hall for people who are on their own, families who just cannot afford food for christmas and whoever really needs it. Christmas is such a happy time for the majority but yet for the less fortunate members of the community it can be very sad and often lonely. I think everyone has the right to enjoy Christmas and have a good meal in a warm, loving environment.
Charity does begin at home and we want to continue the success of last year.
