My Half-Marathon Run For Charity
I’ve never been one for physical exercise, let alone running. At the end of last year, a couple of my old school friends managed to talk me into signing up for this years Birmingham Half Marathon. Sounded easy at the time - especially after a few beers.
The driver for doing this is to raise money for the Renal departments at both the Queen Elizabeth and New Cross Hospitals.
Both of my parents have suffered at the hands of Kidney Cancer. My father was treated at the QE, and my mother was treated at New Cross. Both parents are now minus one kidney each, but are still here with us following the life saving surgery that both hospitals provided.
The physical and mental anguish I have seen my parents endure at the hands of this terrible disease is heartbreaking. The support of the doctors and staff at both hospitals has been paramount in getting my parents to where they are today, and for that I will be forever thankful.
Any donations, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated, and will help both hospitals to continue the great work and research that they do.
Birmingham Half Marathon 2018
I will be running in the Simply Health 2018 Birmingham Half-Marathon, on October 14th.
I started some light training at the start of the year, where I could barely run a mile without collapsing. I ran in the Simply Health Birmingham 10k in May this year.
