As a middle aged man - with middle age spread - I felt I needed a challenge. Partly in memory of my late Grandmother, partly to mark joining Keighley Rotary Club, partly to exercise more, but definitely to raise funds for the Singing Teapot.
I was involved in setting up The Singing Teapot some 3 years ago. This group operates a monthly singing group for local people with dementia and their carers. It's lead singer describes the sessions as lively, fun and interactive - with added cake!
Everyone is welcome at 1.30pm on the first Friday of each month at Keighley Healthy Living Centre, Scott Street, Keighley. We sing lots of different types of songs. Some, such as activity songs will stimulate different parts of the brain, other songs are chosen to stimulate memories and encourage conversations. All the songs make people feel happier and more connected to the people around them, and those feelings last for longer than the singing session themselves.
All the group's helpers are volunteers, whether organising singing, making music, or baking cakes. The only running cost is for the hire of the venue. Donations will pay for room hire, song books and musical instruments.
Treadmills and Teapots
9 May - Having let my blistered settle, and counting all donations you will see that I have raised £906.41 plus gift aid. I am overwhelmed by your support and can only say a massive THANK YOU. The funds will be put to great use, it will cover the group's running costs for over 2 years and buy them some new instruments to accompany the singing.
If you would be interested in going to a singing session, then they meet the fist Friday of each month at Keighley Healthy Living Centre on Scott Street in Keighley. Please get in touch if you would like more details.
The challenge is simple - to walk 52 kilometres in a day. That's one kilometre for each week of the year.
In numbers, that is approximately 60,000 steps, will burn over 8,000 calories and will hopefully only take around 9 non-stop hours.
