ChoraChori is rescuing displaced and trafficked Nepalese children from India. We need your support to bring them home to Nepal and their families.

Hundreds of Nepali children are stranded in the abyss of India, often trapped in Dickensian children's homes or in bonded labour situations where they are held as modern day slaves. The children have crossed the open border between the two countries either looking for a job and a better life (especially after the 2015 earthquakes) or they might have been trafficked there by criminals. All of the children are in abusive situations and highly vulnerable, yearning to return to Nepal and be with their families. We want to bring freedom to the children and give them the chance to start afresh in their homeland, regaining childhoods and a chance of a decent future.
Rescuing Nepal's Lost Children
ChoraChori is unique within Nepalese NGOs in that it sends rescue teams into India to find the lost children and effect their release. Then they are brought back to our dedicated transit refuge in Kathmandu where the children can be assessed and receive initial rehabilitation. Many children are traumatised after the physical, psychological and sometimes sexual abuse that they have experienced. While initial care is underway ChoraChori field staff trace the children's families - a huge challenge as many of them have run away from extreme poverty in the remotest areas. After families are found we consider the domestic circumstances to see if reunification is possible and, if the children are considered to be in good health, this is done with all haste. Where children's families can't be found or their homes are unsuitable for reintegration then we investigate other long term care options.
