Raising money for Rona Sailing Project to refit Rona 2. This will enable us to take our trainee crew on the adventure of a lifetime.
Raising money for
Rona Sailing Project
Donations accepted until 30-09-2017
As well as taking time off work to be the second skipper on Leg 1 of Rona II's 2017 adventure [our leg is London -> Sines in Portugal], I am also helping the trainees from all legs raise money.
To this end we've created http://www.runtheatlantic.com - the aim is to have 100 people run at least 45k each over a number of weeks, and we'll have collectively 'ran the atlantic'. And along the way we've managed to get a bunch of people to new to it to get out running and get fit.
So dig deep - any money donated here goes straight to the RSP and contributes to the refit / especially the new mast we had to get for Rona II.
I first sailed with the then London Sailing Project in 1997, and was lucky enough to sail as a crew in the 1998 tall ships race on Rona 2.
Most people know I volunteer with the Project every year, first as a Watch Leader, then as a Watch Officer, a Mate and now a Skipper.
Now, all these years later, Rona 2 needs a BIG REFIT to enable her to take part in the Transatlantic 2017 - and then keep going for many years beyond. We'll be doing the work ourselves, so all this money raised goes towards materials and so on. We need YOUR help to get us there.
Rendezvous 2017 Transatlantic Tall Ships Race
In 2017 we will be racing our flagship “Rona II” from the UK to
Portugal, across the Atlantic to Bermuda, the US, Canada and back across the
Atlantic to France, giving crews of deserving teenagers a once in a lifetime
opportunity. To do so we need to raise money and support to refit “Rona II”,
train our adult volunteers and the crew, and to cover the myriad costs of such
a huge undertaking. On our return not only will the participants have gained
value life lessons in teamwork, self-reliance, self-confidence and leadership,
but the fully updated “Rona II” will be ready to serve thousands more teenagers
over many more years. It is a major project for us – but one that we will
succeed in, with your support!
