Raising money for
HIP in Cheshire
In 2006 I suffered a brain injury from an RTA. Rebuilding from that incident was a long and tough road. HIP in Cheshire supported me through that transition and made an enormous difference to my family. It's a deeply personal charity for me and I hope my plans are crazy enough to convince you to make a donation to the charity. Head injuries can be totally devastating, all are pretty unique and they are more common than you think. I can personally stand up and say this charity makes a real difference on the ground. Your support is something I am extremely grateful for.
The Dragon's Back Race
The event is self funded (approaching £1k to enter)
in 2012 I took on the Dragon's back. It almost broke me. I was one of only 29 that completed it and the next day I was wheeled from A&E with both legs and feet fully bandaged. It was the greatest adventure I'd ever had and one of my proudest achievements.
In 2017 I took it on again to finish it in the way I wanted to. I was strong and finished stronger. Again, less than half the field finished. I enjoyed it so much that a rush of blood to my head lead to the romantic vision of a hat trick of finishes. Several (unrelated) injuries have left me under trained for this now, but by I'm in panic training and determined to finish it for HIP.
It's a race that totally grips and inspires me. It regularly makes lists such as this one: https://tinyurl.com/mdxzwyc
My Aim is to finish and have enough left to run an extra day to Swansea and touch the water (the ultimate coast to coast).
No event has ever asked me to give more. Finishing is very far from a given, but who wants to start a race they know they can finish eh?
