Help Refugees in the Calais region
With our brilliant partners L'Auberge des Migrants, Refugee Youth Service, Utopia 56 and Refugee Community Kitchen, we continue to run the Calais warehouse and distribution teams.
There are currently up to 700 people - most of them lone children - sleeping on the streets and in forests in and around Calais.
More than ever we need your generosity. People think that because refugees are now forced to live in hiding, they have left altogether. In reality they are living in more precarious conditions than ever. There are no roofs over their heads, or lockable doors. There is no sense of community, no structure, no access to running water, no power to charge phones and very limited access to internet to contact family.
With our partners we are doing our best to fill as many of these gaps as we can. A distribution team, outreach teams, a mobile youth centre, an experienced child protection team and a smoothly-run warehouse all help to make this happen.
Help us help refugees in Northern France
Our physical donations have slowed down due to the situation getting less publicity. But because everyone is sleeping outside, often in the rain and frost, we must regularly replace bedding, socks and warm clothes.
We also regularly need to purchase hygiene products for hygiene packs - razors, tooth brushes, tooth pastes, soap - as well as emergency blankets and ponchos.
We are establishing a laundry service to clean salvaged sleeping bags and a mobile info bus so that adults can access the internet and asylum information.
Your generous donations will allow us to continue to do this work, continuing to fill gaps left by governments and big NGOs in a flexible, reactive, human way.
