Brian Hawkins & Michael Dickinson's Majorca Walk
Brian Hawkins & Michael Dickinson have been walking since 2005 and have walked over 50,000 miles in that time, including The Viking Way, The Thames Path, Leeds to Liverpool, West Highland Way, Robin Hood's Way, Hadrian's Wall, Chesterfield Canal, Cumbrian Way, Grand Union Canal London to Birmingham, Mansfield to Skegness, Llangollen Canal, Isle of Man Millenium Way to Point of Ayre, Peddars Way, London to Edwinstowe and a walk in conjunction with Mansfield Radio around the catchment area! Not bad for a couple of young men in their 70s!
Brian and Michael will and always have paid all their own expenses and have never taken a penny from the funds raised.
The walk will start from the airport and head to Palma, Santa Maria, Alaro, Puerto Pollensa, Alcudia, back to Palma and return to airport - a total of 72 miles. Brian & Michael will start to walk on the day they land at the airport. It will take them seven days to complete the walk at roughly ten miles per day.
All money raised will go directly to Bridge Street Methodist Church for their work in providing the Soup Kitchen. Bridge Street Methodist Church Soup Kitchen provides meals for all vulnerable people in the centre of Mansfield every Monday and Friday evening. Unfortunately we see around 40-50 clients every session at our soup kitchen. Whilst not all of these are traditional rough sleepers, all our clients are vulnerable adults with many sleeping on friend’s sofas or being moved from temporary accommodation to temporary accommodation. Our soup kitchen at Bridge Street is run solely from donations from the general public and the generous time that our volunteers kindly give. Through this generosity we have provided over 10,000 meals in the four years we have been running.
