Escape from Poverty is a British charity raising funds for Family Development Services, an educational charity in South India, which operates “Building Blocks” free pre-school Learning Centres for impoverished children resident in seven slum districts located around the city of Bangalore.
Children are admitted to Building Blocks at the age of three, and by the age of six, they have had a good introduction to an all-round education. They are basically numerate and are literate in both Kanada (the local vernacular) and English. With these skills, they can then gain access to the private, English-language- medium school system.
Escape from Poverty raises sponsorships and scholarships and runs an after-school mentoring and coaching programme to ensure that children from Building Blocks do not fall behind the progress of children from more advantaged backgrounds.
Supporting a Child's Future
At age 6, children leave Building Blocks pre-school Learning Centres numerate and literate in both Kanada (the local vernacular) and in English, and many then continue their education in good, English-medium schools for which we raise scholarships.
People in the UK can choose and sponsor a particular child for their whole education from age 6 to age 16. Alternatively, they can contribute to our General Scholarship Fund, which supports children who are not individually sponsored.
This current campaign is to fund Keerthi Tiwari in the next years of her education. We have guaranteed that we will cover her first year, and we are seeking to raise the full £3,600 that will support her school fees and ongoing after-school tuition and coaching, right through till she is 16 years old.
Please support this bright, hard-working girl in her determination to break out of the cycle of poverty by gaining a good education.
