Bithja in Burma
Myanmar, or Burma, has been a largely reclusive state in recent years. Recent political changes have led to a real sense of optimism amongst ordinary people but the country still struggles with profound poverty. The orphanage I will be supporting and visiting cares for about 40 young people. Just a year ago the children were cared for in extremely basic conditions. They lived in two makeshift huts built just a few inches above the flood water in the rainy season close to open sewers. Happily proper buildings have been constructed at a significant cost raised by donations but the Hope Asia charity still has a long way to go, not only to cover the building but also the ongoing running costs. I really hope you will be able to contribute something to support my endeavour I will be able to tell you exactly what good your donation has done on my return.
