Hair today, gone tomorrow
Hello, I'm Antony.
I'm known for many things, but most noticeable is my ginger hair.
I'm shaving this off (and maybe more...) for charity.
Raising money for
The Cellar Trust
Donations accepted until 28-02-2018
I've always been keen that we should be able to talk about mental health without judgement or prejudice. So when I got depression earlier this year, I started blogging my experience at www.antonyjcbutcher.wordpress.com/blog
The reaction was overwhelming. So many people told me they wished they could share their stories, but didn't want to do it publically. So I started posting their stories and experiences anonymously on my blog. Their tales are raw, honest, and help us know that we aren't alone.
Sharing stories helps, but we also need access to high-quality professional support. This is where the Cellar Trust comes in. They help people who have a mental health problem get into work, and provide a crisis service to keep people out of A+E.
What I've experienced this year has been horrible - I wouldn't recommend depression to anyone, and quitting your job makes paying the mortgage and feeding the cats challenging.
But if as a result of this we raise some serious money for a great local charity serving an area with a serious need for mental health support (and manage to make me look silly at the same time) at least something good has come out of it.
A close shave
We've all heard of Movember - but that's a little tame. So here's the deal - the more money we raise, the more hair comes off. The whole thing will be live streamed on Facebook (link in the donation thankyou email) so you'll get to see what I look like without my fire-camouflage.
If we raise:
£100 - I'll be de-bearded
£500 - I'll have my head shaved
£1000 - I'll have my chest waxed
A few things to note:
- I hate pain
- My facial hair is my pride and joy
- This would be the first time I haven't had a hair on my head since I was born
- If you donate £10+ you'll get the opportunity to receive a lock of my hair! (Gosh only knows why you would, but...)
- My wife really, really hates my chest hair
- There's quite a lot of chest hair
- I might have to go to job interviews as bald as an egg
- I have a tiny bald patch on the back of my head and I'm terrified that my hair will grow back even thinner
- I hate pain
