I moved to Wiltshire last year with my young family. We were keen to be involved in the local community. A running club had just started in our village (Shrewton), and although I had not run since school I signed up for their couch to 5k programme for new runners. My first run was in February 2017. Since then I have found that running is great for both my physical and mental health. During the year I have progressed my running representing Shrewton Running Club in the Wiltshire Road Running League (including my first Half Marathon in September). I have also joined Wiltshire Search and Rescue, a voluntary organisation of professionally trained Search Technicians on call 24/7 by the Emergency Services to support in the search for vulnerable and missing persons. I am currently in training and hope to become an accredited search technician in the first half of 2018.

Event details

2018 London Marathon

Imagine an elderly relative wanders away from their home, a parent doesn’t come home after work or for whatever reason a loved one is missing. When a vulnerable person goes missing, a timely, well-measured response is vital to their chances of survival.
Across the country Police forces rely upon Lowland Search and Rescue teams, like Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR), to provide a reliable resource of well trained but unpaid professionals. Our members are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. WILSAR is a full member of Lowland Rescue and are directly called out by Wiltshire Police. Our members are trained in specialist search techniques. They are all 100% volunteers and pay for their own fuel, kit and training. The team receives no government funding and can only exist by our own fundraising and public donations such as yours.
WILSAR gets little publicity but provides valuable support to our emergency services, this is why when I was fortunate enough to get a place in the 2018 London Marathon I was keen to use the opportunity to raise much needed funds to support them. Please provide any spare change you have as every penny counts. Thanks You, Andy

Still cannot believe you are doing this, but if anyone can, you can, Andy! How much have you progressed since last year, amazing. Hope the injury is better and you can get out on some training runs. Wishing you massive luck, fellow runner! x
