My name is Alex Clark, I am 23 years old and recently graduated from Royal Holloway after having studied politics. I am a keen triathlete/cyclist and have decided to circumnavigate the world by bicycle in less than 10 months.
The journey will take me through 21,500 miles (34,600km) and will see me cycling roughly 100 miles per day depending on where I am in the world.
These charities give children at a disadvantage the opportunity to fulfil their potential where they may not normally be able to. In The Gambia, one of the world's poorest countries, education facilities and opportunity are very limited but this funding gives them the education that every child deserves. The Jack O'Donnell Foundation provides funding for facilities and new equipment for sports clubs to enable the best experience for their young members.
Prestige WorldRide 2018
This expedition will begin in the town I live in, Thame. I will start pedalling, carrying roughly 8kg of kit excluding the weight of the bike, on the morning of Sunday 22nd July 2018. Over the course of two days I will cycle to Folkestone where I will catch a ferry to Calais. Once in Calais, I will cycle 1800km down through France, across the Alps and through Northern Italy to Trieste. By this point, I will be 17 days into the trip and will not truly have left the comfort of European facilities and familiar culture. The following 5 stages that I have split this challenge into will see me travel through Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Oman, Dubai, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, 3 islands of Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Portugal, Spain, France and then back home to Thame. Over the course of 291 days I will cover 21,500 miles and travel to 23 countries across 3 continents.
My aim - to raise £5,000 for each charity and do something only a handful of people have done before.
