Rebuild Classroom at Albreda Lower Basic School
I'm Pageant's webmaster and I've set up this page for Pageant member Catherine Marriott. She is trying to raise funds to rebuild a derelict classroom block at Albreda Lower Basic School in The Gambia.
Rebuild Gambian School Classrooms
Albreda is a small ancient town in The Gambia, West Africa. It lies on the North Bank of the Gambia River, and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, associated with Kunta Kinteh and the slave trade.
Albreda Lower Basic School caters for children of from about 7 to 13 years old. Increasing pupil numbers means that they must run a two-shift system, which is not good for both teachers and children. The school would like to rebuild a derelict classroom block, providing three more classrooms and enabling a return to a normal school day, At present, this building has no roof, cracks in the walls and is slowly being taken over by nature.
Catherine Marriott is trying to raise £2,000, which is the estimated cost of getting these classrooms back into use. We hope to raise sufficient money by the beginning of June so that the work can be carried out during the school's summer break.
