Ali Macdonald's fundraising page
I am a volunteer with Birthlink serving as a member of the Board of Directors. My interest in the work of Birthlink stems from the experience of individuals I know who were raised during their formative early years in children's homes.
Adoptees and those who have been in the care system may experience separation from birth family through no choice of their own. Birthlink seeks to help individuals negotiate the path towards linking with their birth and wider family.
My training for the London Marathon started on Christmas Day 2017 with a 5k Parkrun. Since then I have managed to follow a training plan and hope to complete the London Marathon in around 4 hours.
I am raising money for Birthlink an after adoption information service based in Edinburgh. Service users include adopted adults, birth parents of people adopted as children and their family members, adoptive family members, local authority social workers, voluntary adoption agencies and other professionals.
Birthlink was originally set up in 1911 as the Eastern Branch of the National Vigilance Association, its aim being to protect women and girls on the street.
Birthlink today helps adults affected by adoption and who have been in care to find information about their past or trace estranged family members. I am a member of the Board of Directors for Birthlink.
Amongst its other services Birthlink holds the Scottish Adoption Registry (SAR), an index of adoption records in Scotland and operates the Adoption Contact Register for Scotland.
