Raising money for
The 25% ME Group
The Silence Challenge for Severe M.E. was Amanda's idea. She is completely bed bound and unable to eat or drink anything, fed by a tube, laying in the dark, suffering severe symptoms (including needing resus), looked after 24/7 by carers. She has also lost the ability to speak or move her facial muscles. So for Severe M.E. day she has challenged her carers and us to 24 hours no talking!
We are doing this to raise funds for the 25% M.E. Group (charity no. SC034265), a very small charity with only a few staff to cover the many people in this country in similar situations to Amanda. Unfortunately, the knowledge, care and support that should be provided by the NHS, Social Services and DWP is severely lacking, and the most severely ill and disabled are often the least able to fight for their basic rights without help. This charity has a huge workload and only a couple of part-time staff providing this much needed advocacy service, which is a lifeline to so many. Please help us by sponsoring those of us doing this Silence Challenge, or feel free to do your own sponsored Silence too! Thank you in advance for your donations. (Kiran).
Severe M.E Awareness and Remembrance day was begun by the 25% M.E. Group 6 years ago, and is marked on 8th August as this was the birthday of Sophia Mirza who had severe M.E. (Sophia was the first person to have M.E. recorded as the cause of death on her death certificate.)
The Silence Challenge started in 2016 and we intend to keep this going as a yearly challenge. All you have to do, is pick a day and try and spend 24 hours without talking! Looks easy but wait till you've tried it!
We'd like you to join us in taking part on 8th August, but feel free to do it any day in August. You can ask people to donate to this page, and follow our news on our Facebook page or twitter:
