Zakat Al=Fitr

Alhamdulillah we have come to that time of year again where we are being given a chance to earn more rewards from our Lord Allah SWT by us giving in Zakaat Al-Fitr (Fitrana).

Zakaat al-fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim, if he has one saa’ or more than he needs of food for himself and his family on the day and night of Eid.

Al-Bukhaari (1503) and Muslim (984) narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr, a saa’ of dates, or a saa’ of barley, for every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he enjoined that it be given before the people go out to the prayer.

Abu Dawood (1609) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined zakaat al-fitr as a purification for those who fasted from idle or obscene talk, and so as to feed the poor. Whoever gives it before the prayer, it is accepted zakaah and whoever gives it after the prayer, it is ordinary charity. Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Zakaat Al-Fitr this year is £3.50 per person inclusive of all costs.

This year we will be sending our Zakat Al-Fitr (Fitrana) to Hargeisa, Somaliland. This year’s Zakat Fitr service will be handled by Eesa McKenzie, a long time volunteer and trustee of Croydon ICT.

It is important that your Zakaat Al Fitr reaches the needy families before the Eid Salah in order for it to be a purification of your deeds in Ramadan. For this reason, the deadline for the donation will be 21st night of Ramadan.
